Another week, another revolution

What happened this week? Well, Bolivia exploded. Again. ¡Que se vaya el Gringo!

We went to an asamblea in Solano and hung out there on Tuesday night and wednesday morning. The asambleas in San Martin are interesting. More argumentative than the one we saw in Iapi. I don't know why, but at least the ones we've seen seem to be this way. We called bus companies to get arrival and departure times (yuck).

We went back to San Martin Friday night, because we wanted to go to the No ALCA (=FTAA) project that Jenny was organizing for today in Roca Negra. We kind of walked into a disaster, though. This guy we met, Roberto, was in Chile with some Mapuche indigenous groups. He went to a road blockade with them, and afterwards, they came to where he was staying and arrested him. Apparently beat him up fairly badly. This is bizarre, mostly because he was the ONLY one arrested, and because they knew where he was staying, and so forth. Really creepy. So there were lots of phone calls being made all around, and Alberto ended up flying to Chile this morning early. There were a couple other guests besides us around: a Mapuche (Argentine) woman and a guy from Chile, and we actually had a lot of fun all talking together last night and this morning. It POURED and thundered this morning so we didn't think the Jenny thing was going to happen: Roca Negra isn't really that waterproof. So we just hung out in San Martin, which was cool, particularly since it was our last time there.

OUR LAST TIME THERE! So sad. I'll just have to come back (none of you people will understand why, but that's okay)

We're leaving Monday afternoon for Mendoza, and then to Bariloche, Neuquen, El Calafate and El Chalten, and San Julian. This means we will not be easily contactable. Try email, we'll try to check in occasionally.

We're not getting back here till about 2 or 3 days before our plane leaves. So it'll be pretty nutty.
