The Lake District

On Friday, we hung out in Mendoza. It's pretty--lots of trees, and a couple of parks, one of which we hung out in reading for a couple hours.

Friday evening we took a bus out of Mendoza to Neuquen. We met a guy from Flores (the next neigborhood over from Floresta, where we stayed in BsAs) in the bus station in Mendoza who introduced us to the closest thing Argentina has to peanut butter--this candy bar device that tastes like peanut butter but sweet.

Saturday morning we got to Neuquen and took a bus to Bariloche. That was a really pretty drive through Argentine scrubland and then into this mountain-lake-evergreen area, and then into Bariloche. It was freezing cold and raining so we decided to stay in a hostel (free internet=me keeping all of you up to date). The whole place seems to be full of British people. It's messing with my brain to switch from automatically speaking spanish to not quite knowing what language to start with. Even in town, there's tons of tourists who speak English.

Yesterday we went out to the Llao-Lao peninsula and hiked up to the top of Cerro Llao-Llao, a nice couple-hour hike with absolutely gorgeous views. Then we came back and had the Argentine equivalent of veggie burgers: milanesa de soja. Fried with bunches of onions, they're REALLY tasty.

Today we just went a little way up another mountain, then came back and relaxed a bit in the afternoon. Some of the Brits have invited us to go bowling tonight, so apparently we're going to go bowling with a bunch of British people in the middle of the mountains in Argentina. See what I mean about weird?

Tomorrow morning we bus back to Neuquen to meet up with revolutionaries there and spend a few days with them. We finally got in touch with people there on Saturday, so they'll meet us at the bus station. And that'll be a whole new adventure.
